Raiders of the Serpent Sea Fan Content Policy
Last Updated: April 7, 2024 (v 0.01)
We at Runic Tales are thrilled with the various channels showcasing Raiders of the Serpent Sea and delighted that so many are having so much fun with our work. As more of you find your way onto the Serpent Sea, we’ve been fielding a few more questions regarding our policy towards fan created content.
First, we love it. There’s an obvious benefit for us in having more of you exploring the Serpent Sea in all kinds of different ways. I imagine over time this policy might get more complicated and nuanced, but for now we’ll try to keep it simple.
Content
This policy applies to streaming videos (such as Twitch and YouTube), adventures, accessory content (tokens, maps, etc.), fiction, images, websites, and podcasts. For other kinds of content reach out and we’ll try to clarify.
Where it says, Raiders (IP), we mean the Raiders of the Serpent Sea Intellectual Property.
Requirements
1. Primarily, your project must be free.
2. Everyone must have access to the content you create. In exchange, you may use our Raiders (IP) in your free content. (To offset your creation costs, you are allowed to receive donations from sites like Patreon, or generate advertising revenue.)
3. Your project must be respectful to Raider’s (IP) and you must obey the law. Don’t do anything in the project that damages Raiders (IP) and don’t damage the IP of any other intellectual property you include. You must have permission to use all of the IP in your project, not just the Raiders IP.
Obligations
As practical*, the following attribution must be published with each project that uses Raiders (IP) under this content policy. Replace [Your Project] with your project’s name.
“[Your Project] uses content owned by Runic Tales Inc. and that content is available for use under the Raiders of the Serpent Sea Fan Content Policy (https://runictales.com/fancontent/). We can’t charge you to use or access this content and it is not endorsed by Runic Tales Inc.”.
* By practical we mean the following: a PDF should have the attribution in a visible location; likewise a website with various pieces of content doesn’t need the attribution on each piece of content but should contain the attribution in at least one location on the website. Don’t go out of your way to hide the attribution but you also don’t need to diminish the quality of the content you are producing by having the attribution appear in an inelegant way.
Once those obligations are fulfilled, you can use the IP in the following ways: You may use text, artwork, or maps, from “World 1” content for the Raiders IP (please also replicate any artist credits from the Raiders sourcebooks in your project as those artists deserve additional recognition for their outstanding work)
Just a heads-up: if any legal stuff crops up because of your project or how you’ve used the Raiders (IP), you’re on the hook. That means covering legal fees, including lawyer bills, settlements, and any other costs we might face.
Approved Products
While you comply with this policy, these products are approved for use, and you can reference content from these products in your noncommercial projects.
